Nemanja Popadic was born in 1990 in Novi Sad, presentday
Serbia, and lives and works in Vienna. He graduated
in Fashion design at the Iuav University in Venice, and
specialised in Art and science at the University of Applied
arts in Vienna, where he is competing for a PhD. He has
exhibited on several occasions in Italy, Serbia and Austria. His
work moves between performance, multimedia installation
and sculpture, in search of the minimal units of movement
and perception which, by abstracting and acquiring a
transcendental score, become a mystical, contemplative
environment.
In situ plays on the paradox of dislocation and doubling in
cyberspace: the objects in the exhibition are real in their
material presence, but are also posited as otherness in a
virtualised reality. Alongside the ceramic phytomorphic
sculptures, the projection of a video illustrating their
modelling in three dimensions places their ontogenesis in a
vibrant and uncertain level of reality, in which it is not clear
whether the cyberspace to which the artist alludes is there to
corroborate the idea of reality or to undermine it.
