Nahid Kaka Tafti was born in Yazd, Iran, in 1996. She has been practising as a painter for twelve years. She graduated from Yazd University in 2017 and has participated in several group exhibitions between Teheran and Yazd. This is her first participation in an exhibition outside her country.
In Discomfort she uses a dynamic and expressive technique in which the subject of the work is not only indicated in the delineation of a recognisable figure but also in the manner of painting itself, between figuration and calligraphy passing through the Expressionism experiences of figures such as Georg Baselitz. An aggressive and explicit painting without being verbose tries to concretise in the material of the painting the theme of the position of women in contemporary society: a woman who has become aware of herself, proud and emancipated, but who still suffers compression, violence and censorship. The body in Discomfort turns red, invades the space, vanishes and disidentifies in the thrashed and nervous
drawing of colour.
